Mrs. Voncile Jeanette Couey, 87, passed away on Oct. 29, 2023, in Morganton, Ga. Jeanette was born Jan. 3, 1936 in Grand Ridge, Fla., to Jake Weeks and Iona Cunningham Roland. She loved cooking and baking in her kitchen daily. Her family favorites included her famous cheesecake and huge holiday feasts. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by family during the holiday gatherings. In her spare time, she loved gardening and listening to her favorite country music. She was a Baptist and spent most of her life in Perry as a homemaker. Jeanette was preceded in death by: her husband of 43 years, Harrell Couey; her parents, Jake Weeks and Iona Cunningham; her first husband and the father of their children, Thomas L. Holmes; her brothers, Edward Weeks, Don and Ray Roland; two grandsons, Brian and Timothy Holmes; and her grandmother, Ella Noble. Mrs. Couey is survived by: her children, Anne Holmes (Terry), Gary Holmes (Susan), Greg Holmes (Iche), Debbie Hoover, Bobby Couey (Pam), Ashley Couey and Edna Mae Couey; her 10 grandchildren, Jennifer Davis (Dave), Melissa Blair, Darren Holmes (Jaclyn), Jessica Gonzalez (Eddie), Brittany Holmes, Katie Holmes, Jessica Locke (Justin), Shelby, Derek and Devin Couey; 23 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Betty Weeks Burdett; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home of Perry with Brother Ben Kimmell officiating. Interment services will follow in Woodland Cemetery.
