Mr. Billy A. Cannon, 79, of Perry passed away on Dec. 8, 2023, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born Aug. 25, 1944, in Perry to Pharo Cannon and Della Williams Cannon.
He attended Taylor County High School, where he played varsity football.
He was a Baptist and attended Friendship Baptist Church.
Billy served as a police officer with the Perry Police Department (PPD) and as a deputy with the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO).
He worked at Perry Lumber Company as well, before starting his own business in 1989 when he founded Cannon Livestock, where he worked until his passing.
In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and keeping his yard well-maintained.
Billy was preceded in death by: his parents, Pharo and Della Cannon; a daughter, Selena Moore; a grandson, Tyler Eddy; and a brother, Morris Winters.
He is survived by: his wife of 34 years, Mary Jane Padgett Cannon; one daughter, Toni Courtney Evans, and husband, Sheldon of Perry; one grandson, Alan “Pooh” Eddy of Perry; five step-grandchildren, Richard Eddy, Tyler Evans, Skyler Evans, Shelby Evans and Isabella Evans; and six step-great-grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 13, at 2 p.m. In Burns Funeral Home Chapel in Perry with Brother Danny Lundy officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
The family received friends Tuesday, Dec. 12, from 6-8 p.m.at Burns Funeral Home of Perry. They will also receive friends one hour prior to the service.
