    Betty Lou Walters

    Betty Lou Walters, 78, passed away on Dec. 7, 2023, at her home in Bronson.

    She was born Dec. 16, 1944, in Miami to Robert Newberry and Louise Pirkey Newberry.

    Betty worked with Native American ministries and at Indian Falls Creek in Davis, Okla. She also served at First Indian Baptist Church at Brighton Indian reservation in South Florida and she was a faithful member of Econfina Tribe of Florida.

    She was an honorary member of Oakland Baptist Church of Cabbage Grove.

    She enjoyed gardening and sewing, especially Seminole skirts. She worked at Piper Aircraft and was proud that she painted Richard Petty’s personal airplane.

    She was the best, sweetest, loving mother ( “Mommy”) and wife who enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

    Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Newberry and Louise Pirkey Newland, and two sisters, Katherine Mercier, and Patsy Roumanos.

    She is survived by: her husband of 58 years, Pastor Timothy Walters; four daughters, Wendy (Charles) VanOrder, Shari Jabbar, Tammy (Darryl) McGinnes and Helen (Allen) Burch; 14 grandchildren, Bethany, Clarinda, Shelby, Shasheila, Seph, Amber, Jared, Jordan, Mariah, Andrew, Crystal, Amanda, Timothy and Darryl Jr.; 21 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Jeanette Crowningshield, Joann Winspur and Robert, George, Dennis and Randy Newberry; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 11, at 2 a.m. at First Church of God of Perry with Brother Danny Lundy officiating. Interment services followed in Fellowship Baptist Cemetery. The family received friends one hour prior to the service.
