Lowery Elliott “Sonny” Wentworth Jr., 90, passed away on Dec. 14, 2023, in Perry.
Lowery was born July 12, 1933, in Taylor County to Lowery Elliott Wentworth Sr. and Addie Belle Whiddon Wentworth O’Neal.
He honorably served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
Mr. Wentworth was a Christian and a member of Evangel Christian Fellowship.
As a young man, Lowery worked as state trooper for the Florida Highway Patrol. He then began working for the State of Florida in the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles as a state auditor, retiring after 35 years of service.
Most recently, he will be fondly remembered as greeting folks as they came to visit WalMart.
He enjoyed reading and studying his Bible, being a part of the breakfast club at Hardee’s and was known to enjoy a big bowl of ice cream from time to time.
Lowery never met a stranger, and always had an encouraging word for you, and would happily pray with you, if you asked.
He is truly going to be missed by all those that knew and loved him.
Lowery was preceded in death by: his wife of 56 years, Christine Elizabeth Wentworth; his parents, Lowery Elliott Wentworth Sr. and Addie Belle Whiddon O’Neal; and his brother, William Reginald Wentworth, Sr.
Mr. Wentworth is survived by: his daughters, Loree (Alan) Wynn and Arrii Smith; his sisters, Bonnie O’Neal Johnson, Sarah O’Neal (Al) Browning and Marie Wentworth; and his granddaughter Allora Baxley; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Dec. 17, at 3 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home of Perry with Brother Justin Webb officiating. Interment services will follow in Hendry Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
