    A solid foundation

    Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner (left) presented Dr. John Hughes a proclamation naming Dec. 5 as “Dr. John Hughes Day” in Houston.

    Building a solid foundation takes time, and is accomplished brick by brick.

    For Dr. John Hughes, the cornerstones of his foundation were laid by his parents, Lawrence and Edna Hughes of Perry, along with his six brothers and sisters.
