    George R. “Sonny” Lollis

    George R. “Sonny” Lollis, 82, passed away on Dec. 31, 2023, at home with his wife and four sons by his side in Perry. Sonny was born March 24, 1941, in Cordele, Ga., to Hugh Dorsey Lollis and Edna Inez Willard Lollis. He moved to Perry at a young age, where he resided with Josh Ezell’s family where he hunted and gathered cattle when it was open range in Florida. He honorably served his country in the United States Army. Sonny was a history buff and involved in local politics in order to better the community in Perry and Osceola County. He was there to be the voice for the people of the community. He attended Athena Baptist Church for many years. Sonny worked as a pipe welder in the construction industry throughout the United States. Many may remember Sonny as a local football hero and his athletic abilities. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Dorsey Lollis and Edna Inez Willard, and his grandson, Justin Gabriel Lollis. Mr. Lollis is survived by: his wife of 63 years, Bobbie Jean Lollis; four sons, Hugh O’Kee Lollis, George O’Brian Lollis, Quient O’Dell Lollis and Laurent O’Gene Lollis; grandchildren; greatgrandchildren; and his siblings, Mary Sadler, Lee Lollis, Michael Lollis, Marsha Lollis and Joe Lollis; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, Jan. 4, at 1 p.m. at Athena Baptist Church with Brother David McMullen and Kee Lollis officiating.
