Mr. Alvin Thurman Cannon, 78, of Perry passed away on Dec. 31, 2023, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. Alvin was born Oct. 16, 1945, in Boyd to John Cannon and Ethel Bass Cannon. He attended Madison County High School and honorably served his country in the United States Army Reserves for six years. He met Linda Mathis at the Taylor County Pine Tree Festival, and they were married in 1966. Alvin went to work for Davey Tree Expert Company, where he was trained as an arborist. He stayed with Davey until he retired at 55 years of age. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by: his parents, John Cannon and Ethel Cooper; a brother, Rayburn Cannon; and a special uncle, Jimmy “Flat” Bass. Alvin is survived by: his wife of 58 years, Linda Mathis Cannon; one son, Tony Cannon, and wife Jennifer, of Umatilla; a daughter, Michele Arnold of Perry; a sister, Ollie Sullivan; four grandchildren, Lindsey (Reynard), Victoria (Dustin), Logan and Madison; three greatgrandchildren, Lennox, Jackson, and Knoxx; and two close friends, Marvin Hassell of Trenton, and Bob Arnold of Perry; as well as numerous brothersand-sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A graveside funeral service will be held Thursday, Jan. 4, at noon at Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior, starting at 11 a.m., at Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
