Glenn Knowles passed away surrounded by his family on January 5th in Gainesville, Florida. Glenn was the third of five children born to Edward and Dorothy Knowles.
Glenn was a member of the First Presbyterian Church as well as the Shriners Club, the Masonic Lodge, and the Perry Elks Club. Glenn served honorably in the US Navy during the Vietnam Era on the USS Roosevelt. After Glenn was honorably discharged, he began working at Perry Hardware before beginning his career at the Taylor County Correctional Institution. In his free time Glenn could be found in The Swamp almost every Saturday during the fall cheering on the Florida Gators. Glenn also enjoyed going fishing, Saturday nights playing cards, playing horseshoes, and being the life of the party.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Dorothy Knowles, his brother Mack Knowles, his mother-in-law Iris Shiver, two sisters-in-law, Judy and Lavada Shiver, and a brother-in-law Mike Lundy.
He is survived by his wife of 45.5 years, Jo Ann Knowles. While they had no children together, Glenn was a father to Rob Wilson (Kim) and Rodrick Wilson. Glenn had three grandchildren Joshuah Wilson (Kinzi), Paityn Wilson (Will), Aiden Wilson and three great grandchildren Raeleigh, Kolton and Case. He is also survived by three sisters, Phyllis Doster, Rhonda Lundy, and Opal Bembry (Buck). Glenn was survived by a host of nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
Services will be held Friday, January 12th, at the First Presbyterian Church in Perry, Florida. Visitation will begin at 10 AM with a service at 11 AM. interment services will follow immediately afterward at Lake Bird Cemetery. Services will be hosted by Joe P Burns Funeral Home.
