    Commission hopes to speed up canal dredging

    The Florida Department of Environmental Protection was tasked with cleaning debris from public waterways in Taylor County following Hurricane Idalia. However, many residents say there was debris left behind, and additionally, the storm left a large amount of silt and other material which is blocking access to some canals.

    In an effort to speed up the county’s long-delayed canal dredging projects — especially in light of the large amounts of silt and other material left behind by Hurricane Idalia — the Taylor County Commission is seeking two state grants as part of the $50 million in Idalia recovery funds made available by the Florida Legislature last fall.
