    Teachers and staff fill school board meeting to demand salary increases

    The Taylor County School Board met Tuesday with a standing-room only crowd of teachers and non-instructional personnel that spilled outside. Many dressed in black and held signs advocating for higher wages. The school district continues to wrestle with how to implement state-mandated higher starting teacher salaries, while also rewarding veteran employees who have many more years of service — constrained by a budget they say desperately needs more state funding.

    A capacity crowd filled the school board meeting room and spilled out onto the sidewalk Tuesday night, as local teachers and non-instructional employees voiced their frustrations with salary negotiations between their respective unions and the school district dragging into the new year.
