New year starts with a deep freeze

By noon Tuesday, the temperature was still not above freezing, hovering at 31 degrees.

The coldest day of the 2013-14 winter season followed the coldest night of the season so far, with the temperature dropping to 23 in the early morning hours of Tuesday and a reported windchill dropping that figure to as low as 14, according to the National Weather Service station at Perry-Foley Airport.
