An unoccupied residence on Hwy. 19 South in Salem suffered significant damage as the result of a Saturday morning fire. Taylor County Fire Rescue Service engines were dispatched around 6:30 a.m. and found the fire had already engulfed approximately half of the brick and wood frame structure upon their arrival. It took firefighter crews about 30 minutes to get the fire under control and stop any further advancement of the flames. The cause of the blaze is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office. According to a post on social media, the homeowner was in the process of selling the home and had removed most of the contents just two weeks prior.
