Mr. Henry Luke McLeod Jr., 83, passed away on April 12, 2024, in Perry.
Henry was born May 25, 1940, in Boyd to Henry Luke McLeod Sr. and Mrs. Devell Peters McLeod. Henry passed away peacefully with his family by his side, after an extended battle with cancer.
He was a graduate of Taylor County High School, where he played football and was a member of the band.
Henry honorably served his country in the United States Army Reserve.
Henry was of the Methodist faith and a member of Boyd New Life Methodist Church.
He retired from Buckeye Cellulose after 37 years of service.
Henry was a historian and genealogist. He enjoyed preserving local history, researching family genealogy, and in his later years, enjoyed reading.
In 2016, he received the W.H. Peacock-Dr. Wilson T. Hendry History Award from the Taylor County Historical Society.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Henry Luke McLeod Sr. and Devell Peters McLeod; his first wife of 30 years, June Parker McLeod; and his brother, James “Jimmy” McLeod.
He is survived by: his wife of 20 years, Becky Sadler McLeod; a stepson, Tony Parker, and wifem Lisa, of Florence, Ala.; two grandsons, Alex Parker (Kaitlyn) of Florence, Ala., and Adrien Parker of Perry; and a granddaughter, Jenna Parker, of Clayton, N.C.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Monday, April 15, at noon at Burns Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Perry with Brother Danny Lundy officiating. Interment followed at Boyd New Life United Methodist Church Cemetery.
All arrangements are under the care of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
