Downtown Perry was effectively “cut in two” Tuesday when a train traveling through town derailed at the curve near Jefferson Street just before noon, blocking traffic along nine crossings from Drew Street to Julia Street.

Perry Police Department Captain Jaime Cruce said there were no hazardous chemicals on board and there were no calls for evacuations.
