Tyson T. Hicks Jr., 77, passed away on April 17, 2024, in Perry.
He was born Sept. 15, 1946, in Perry to Tyson Hicks Sr. and Mary Louise Vickery Hicks.
Tyson honorably served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam war and was stationed in Thailand.
He later graduated from Florida State University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He went on to manage, and later own, the Pepsi Bottling Co. in Perry.
He was very active in his sons’ lives in youth sports and coached them in soccer from ages 4-18.
He coached the soccer and golf teams for Taylor County High School, and was an educator in the local school system for many years.
He was a member of Perry Golf and Country Club, where he served on the Board of Directors for many years.
He was also a member of the Perry Elks Lodge.
He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, as he grew up on the Fenholloway at Hicks Fish Camp. He spent most of his time on the golf course and loved to play in senior tournaments and local tournaments.
Tyson was preceded in death by: his parents. Tyson and Mary Hicks; his sisters, Betty Hicks and Caroline Winburn; and his brother, Marshall Hicks.
He is survived by: his wife of 52 years, Janet Hicks; two sons, Ty Hicks and Kevin Hicks and his wife, Emily; three granddaughters Madeline (13), Elizabeth (9) and Hannah (8); and one sister, Polly Hodges; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, April 20, at 11 a.m. at Boyd Methodist Church with Pastor Wallace Holmes officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 10-11 a.m. at the church.
