Ruth Annette Horton, 80, passed away on May 10, 2024, at her home in Perry. She was born on Jan. 11, 1944, in Garland, N.C., to Tom Rich and Ruth Dyson Rich. Annette drove a school bus for Taylor County for more than 20 years and worked part-time at the Boys and Girls Club in Perry. She enjoyed buying homes, fixing them up and reselling them. She liked listening to music, dancing, and working in her flower beds. Annette was preceded in death by her parents, Tom Rich and Ruth Dyson Rich, and her son, Glen Sheffield. She is survived by: her husband of 30 years, Foye Horton; her daughter, Deborah Ann Sheffield, grandson, Blake Armstrong; granddaughter, Hillary Osborn; three great-grandchildren, Elia Ann Smith, Oliver Osborn and Rey Osborn; sisters, Caroline Dean and Marsha Gallimore; and her brother, Michael Rich; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 14, at 10:30 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home of Perry with Dr. Todd Taylor officiating. Interment services followed afterward at Hendry Cemetery. The family will received friends Monday, May 13, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
