DeSantis vetoes firefighter/EMT academy

Big Bend Technical College (BBTC) and local school district officials had high hopes that this year’s state budget would include an allocation to build a new firefighter/EMT academy here, but those hopes were dashed Wednesday when the proposed $2.9 million in funding was among $1 billion in line item veto budget cuts announced by Governor Ron DeSantis.
