Looters target Aucilla area

Thirteen individuals face more than 400 felony violations for allegedly selling artifacts they dug up on land and in rivers, mostly in northern and central Florida, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).

Although an FWC spokesperson wouldn’t give specifics due to an ongoing investigation, she did say that some of the sites may have been on wildlife management areas in Taylor and nearby counties as well as in the Aucilla River.
