Larry Joseph Roberts, 81, passed away on Aug. 9, 2024, after a long battle with cancer surrounded by his family in Quitman, Ga. Larry was born in Perry to Marvin and Myrtice (Poppell) Roberts. He proudly served four years in the United States Air Force. Larry worked for Northfolk Southern as a railroad engineer for 33 years. He was a proud member of the NRA. Larry loved all things trains, hunting, fishing, target practicing, collecting guns and knifes, and Trump. He loved everyone and never met a stranger, but he especially loved his family. His warm smile and gentle spirit touched the lives of everyone around him, leaving a lastly impression that will never be forgotten. Larry was preceded in death by: his parents, Melvin and Myrtice (Poppell) Roberts; and his siblings, AB Roberts, Howard Roberts, Nelda Carter, Roland Roberts, Janice Cousins and Richard Roberts; as well as one granddaughter, Alyssa Roberts, and step-grandson, Brandon Findley. Larry is survived by: his beloved wife of 17 years, Barbara Roberts; his four children, Timothy (Lauren) Roberts, Tammy (Sheldon) Sands, Bryan (Kasey) Roberts and Jay Bear (Stephanie) Roberts; stepchildren, Lisa Strevall (Bill), Jay Watkins (Sandra) and Angela Watkins; his pride and joy, his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren; and his siblings, Reggie (Judy) Roberts and Faye Denmark of Perry; as well as a host of nieces and nephews and his beloved friends. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
