Betty Strickland Simmons It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Betty Strickland Simmons, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Betty was born on July 3, 1954, in Plant City, and peacefully passed away on Aug. 25, 2024. She dedicated her life to caring for her loved ones and found immense joy in tending to her garden and flowers. Her gentle spirit extended beyond plants to her cherished dogs, whom she adored. Betty’s true happiness stemmed from spending quality time with her family, particularly her son Eugene Simmons Jr., whom she loved dearly. Despite facing various challenges, Betty remained resilient, working as a dedicated cashier in the convenience store industry. Her warm smile and kind demeanor brightened the days of those around her, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing her. In the midst of this profound loss, we find solace in the memories and lessons Betty shared with us. Her legacy of compassion and unwavering love will continue to inspire us all. She is preceded in death by: her husband, Pete F. Simmons Sr.; one sister, Henrietta Jill Hartman; one brother, Holly “Buddy” Strickland; her parents, Holly F. Strickland and Nettie L. Strickland; and her great-grandson, Grayson “Tater” Simmons. She is survived by: her children, Eugene F. Simmons Jr. (Roxanne) and Rosie Moore (James); one sister, Dolly Miller (Allen); her grandchildren, Bud, Savannah, Betty, Susan, Wesley and Kayla; her 10 great-grandchildren; and her great-great-niece; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Rest in peace, dear Betty. Your memory will forever remain in our hearts. A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
