Helene demolishes up to 90% of homes along county’s coastline

    Posted on October 2, 2024

Search and rescue team members had to land a helicopter at Dekle Beach on Friday morning to survey the damage and search what structures remained after Category 4 Hurricane Helene slammed into the Taylor County coast Thursday evening around 11 p.m. The majority of the homes in the tiny coastal community were washed away or destroyed, and the few that remained sustained significant damage, but there were no injuries or fatalities reported.
