Jimmie S. Cone Sr., 82, of Greenville entered into rest on Sept. 30, 2024. He was born Dec. 17, 1941. A proud U.S. Navy veteran (1960-1964), he served aboard the USS NOA DD841 during the Cuban Missile Crisis and with the Mercury-Atlas 6 mission with the retrieval of Friendship 7 and John Glenn. After his time in the Navy, he worked at WinnDixie for 35 years as a meat cutter. He is survived by: his daughter Sharon Davis (Mike) of Greenville; son, Jimmie Cone Jr. of Orlando; five granddaughters, Cheyenne, Cierra, Janisya, Isabella and Ava; three great-grandsons, TJ, Kaleb and Kaiden; brother, Farley (Doris) Cone of Jasper; sisters, Joyce (Andy) Wells of Madison, Peggy Duncan of Greenville, Tammy (Bob) Berger of Steinhatchee and Mary (Bob) Sublet of Lake Park, Ga.; brothersin-law, Johnny Carroll of Greenville,and James Crews (Linda) of Kings Bay, Ga.; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his parents, James and Bennie Cone; wife, Maxine Cone; brother, Tommy Cone; and sisters, Jean Carol and Lavonne Browning. In lieu of flowers, in-kind donations can be made to his trust account at The First Bank in Monticello (850) 997-2591. Services will be held Sunday, Oct. 6, at 2 p.m., at Beggs Funeral Home Madison Chapel in Madison. The family will receive guests and visitors one hour prior to the service, from 1-2 p.m. Interment will be at Hensey Cemetery in Greenville. Condolences may be left online at beggsfuneral.com.
