Ervin Young was born on June 13, 1937, in Cabbage Grove and passed away peacefully on Nov. 15, 2024, after living a long, fruitful and fulfilled life doing all the things he enjoyed most.
He was a United States Army veteran, a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church in Perry, as well as a lifetime member of Oakland Baptist Church in Cabbage Grove.
He was a lifetime member of the Perry Elks Lodge, where he served terms as Exalted Ruler among many other roles and a life member of the Masonic Lodge in Bushnell.
Ervin worked with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission early in life then finished his career and retired from the Florida Department of Corrections.
He was an avid rancher and a member of the Florida Cattleman’s Association.
During his retired and later years, you could find him sitting under the maple tree in his front yard, enjoying a breeze or tending to and feeding his beloved cows.
Ervin is predeceased by: his parents, Adron Young and Letha Poppell Young; one brother, W.B.; two sisters, Alberta and Kathleen, and twin great-granddaughters, Oakleigh and Peyton Schwab.
He is survived by: his twin brother, Earl Young; his son, Glenn Ervin Young (Kim) of Pelham, Ga.; his daughter, Amalia Young Barrett (Jeff) of Perry; one grandson, Ethan J. Young (Laura); granddaughter Whitney Y. Schwab (Tanner); and great-grandchildren, Cullen, Emma, Caroline, Kimber, Kinsley and Harrison; as well as multiple nieces and nephews.
A viewing for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 6-8 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home in Perry.
A memorial service honoring his life will be held Thursday, Nov. 21, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Perry with Pastor John Bryant officiating. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Cabbage Grove.
