Florrie Marie Burroughs of Shady Grove went home to be with our Lord on Sunday, Nov. 24, 2024, after a long illness. She was born to Lawrence Hilton and Virginia Edith Rowell of Shady Grove on Dec. 21, 1945. She was a Christian of the Southern Baptist faith and faithful member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Eridu, where she served as piano player, choir member and director of the Toddler and Nursery Ministry until her illness no longer allowed. Florrie retired from the City of Gainesville as staff secretary for the Gainesville City Commission. In retirement, she worked at the Shady Grove Boys and Girls Club where she loved and nurtured young children. She also was a founding member and leader in the Shady Grove Citizen’s Council, which was instrumental in the establishment of the Shady Grove Community Center, the annual Christmas Parade and numerous other fundraisers. Her hobbies included singing and playing the piano, minding her flower garden and taking care of her rescue dogs. Florrie treasured the love of family and friends the most. The family would often gather for a meal where they could share in their daily lives and enjoy the time that was spent together. Florrie’s ambition in life was to let everyone know about Jesus, the love of God, the need to go to church and the need to have Jesus in our hearts She was preceded in death by: her husband, Joseph Eschol Burroughs; her mother and father; and one son, William Eric Cruce. Florrie is survived by: two sons, Joseph Kevin Cruce and wife, Wendy; Jeffrey Wade Cruce and wife, Inez; one stepdaughter, Sabrina (Genaro) Parga; seven grandchildren, Matthew Cruce, Chelsea Yates, Cassidy Cruce, Chloe Cruce, Caysee Cruce, Samantha Cruce and Rylee Cruce; seven greatgrandchildren; one sister, Sara Grubbs; four brothers, Auley (Patricia) Rowell, Dale (Donna) Rowell, Walter (Barbara) Rowell and Randy (Laura) Rowell; and a host of nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Florrie’s life at her funeral service, which will be held at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church on Wednesday, Nov. 27, at 11 a.m. Prior to the service, a public visitation will take place at the church starting at 10 a.m., offering an opportunity to pay respects and reminisce on the beautiful moments shared with Florrie. As we gather to honor and remember Florrie, let us find comfort in the memories we shared and the legacy she leaves behind. Rest in peace, dear Florrie, you will be deeply missed, but always remembered with love and fondness. All arrangements are under the directions of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
