    Shirley May (Roberts) Schmid

    Shirley May (Roberts) Schmid was born on Nov. 7, 1936, in Ft. Lauderdale and passed this life on May 16, 2025, in Tampa. She graduated from Jefferson County High School in 1954 and married Charles Schmid of Perry in 1959. Shirley operated the Little Red Schoolhouse Nursery from 1973-1996, before moving to Temple Terrace in 1997 to become a dorm mother at Florida College. Shirley was preceded in death by: her husband, Charles Schmid; her parents, P.G. and Esther Roberts; in-laws, Herbert and Annie Lou Schmid; and three sisters. She is survived by: her daughters, Sheila Thomley (Tommy) and Sylvia Matthews (Michael), both of Tampa; her son, Michael Schmid (Brenda) of Houston, Texas; her sisters, Ruth Bethea of Perry and Betty Johnson of Winchester, Ky.; her two sisters-inlaw, Kit Bethea (Bryan) of Perry and Kay Royals (Horace) of Tallahassee; nine grandsons; one granddaughter; six greatgrandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends. A memorial service will be held Monday, June 2, at 7 p.m. at the Citrus Park Church of Christ in Tampa. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, June 3, at Woodlawn Cemetery in Perry, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Florida College.
