DOH reminds residents Narcan is available at local health dept.

    Posted on June 11, 2025

Narcan (also known as naloxone) is a medication that can rapidly reverse the effects of an opioid overdose by binding to the same receptors in the brain as opioids, but without activating them, effectively blocking their effect. Narcan is available as a nasal spray and is easy to use. It can be administered by anyone, with or without medical training, and quickly helps restore normal breathing, reversing an opioid overdose in 2 to 3 minutes. It is safe to use and has no effect if opioids are not in a person’s system.

As part of its observance of “Revive Awareness Day” on June 6, the Florida Department of Health in Taylor County (DOH-Taylor) reminds residents that naloxone (Narcan) is available at the local health department.
