City seeking funding for wastewater vacuum truck

    Posted on June 18, 2025

The city was allowed to temporarily test out a 15-cubic-yard vacuum truck earlier this month to service one of its most problematic wastewater lift stations on Highway 19, removing a truck load of grease and sludge that was then dumped on drying pads at the city’s wastewater treatment plant. Wastewater Superintendent Shawn O’Quinn explained how the vac truck’s contents are dumped onto drying beds at the wastewater plant (above) to allow water to filter through permeable mats before any sludge or solids that remain behind is collected and disposed of at the landfill.

The City of Perry continues to seek funding sources to help pay for a wastewater vacuum truck that would allow city crews to quickly and efficiently service and clean sewer lift stations clogged with grease and other debris.
