    Posted on March 6, 2013

Nine Taylor County residents have entered guilty pleas in a drug trafficking case investigators say rivals the heyday of illegal smuggling that took place here in the 1980s.

Steven Mink and James “Sammie” Kinsey, both of Perry, have pled guilty in federal court to conspiracy to distribute more than 100 kilograms of marijuana.

Troy Gunter and Jamie Gunter have also entered guilty pleas to federal charges of conspiracy to distribute less than 50 kilograms of marijuana and distribution of marijuana.

Charles Williams and Donald Parker, also of Perry, entered their guilty pleas in circuit court; Williams to charges of sale of cannabis and possession of more than 20 grams of cannabis, and Parker to charges of possession of more than 20 grams of cannabis and possession of cannabis with intent to sell.

All five defendants are awaiting sentencing hearings.
