Johnny Edwards Jr., 74, of Perry passed away on Thursday, Dec. 25, 2025. He was born to Johnny Edwards Sr. and Florence Coach. Johnny completed his education at Jerkins High School before graduating from Taylor County High School with the Class of 1969. He was the first African American telephone installer in Perry. He was preceded in death by: his parents; sisters, Amie Roberts, Josephine Coach and Mildred Alexander; brothers, Johnny Frank, Robert Edwards and Benny Edwards; aunts, Addie Lee and Etta Jones; and uncles, Frank Jones, Nathaniel Sr., Johnny, George and James Washington Sr. Johnny’s memory will be cherished by: his wife, Marva Edwards; his daughter, Lauretta Nelson (Adrian); his grandchildren, Adrian Nelson Jr., Asia Nelson, Ashley Nelson and Akacia Harris (Chris); his sisters, Patricia Brown and Dorothy Grimes; brothers, Booker Edwards (Phyllis) and Charles Edwards (Dorothy); nieces, Jacqueline Flowers (Wayne) and Deonna Edwards; and nephews, William Alexander Jr. (Virginia) and Chikoski Edwards. Additionally, he leaves behind his bonus sons: Roderick Johnson, Nathaniel Britt, Kevin Britt (Tamiko), Todd Britt and Chad Britt; along with special friends, John Phillip and cousin, Ernest Lang. Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 2, from 4-6 p.m. at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 3, at 2 p.m., at the church. Evans Walker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
