    Posted on January 21, 2026

With heavy hearts but joyful spirits, we celebrate the life of Katie “Kay” Marie Hendry, who was born on April 24, 1945, in Perry, and who was joyfully reunited with her husband, Alton, on Jan. 19, 2026, at the age of 80. Kay, as she was fondly known, left us peacefully surrounded by the love she so readily shared with those around her. She was preceded in death by: her parents, Wesley and Helen Walker; her husband, Alton Hendry; her sister, Becky Paramore; brother, Carson Walker; and her special friend, Marvin Sneed. Kay was a beloved and devoted mother to her son, Al Hendry, and his wife, Karen; her daughter, Tasha Smith, and her husband, Al; a loving Granny to her grandchildren, Laurel LaValle, Garrett Hendry and Joey Smith; greatgrandchildren, Amelia, Fiona, Trevor and Caden; and a cherished sister to her siblings, Delores Ratliff, Jean Coxwell and C.W. Walker; as well as a loving aunt to a host of nieces and nephews. Her passion for life was unmatched; spanning a career as a lunchroom worker in the field of education, she made countless connections with students and staff alike, nurturing both their bodies and spirits. She also worked at Judy’s 14K Gold and Rebecca’s Jewelry for many years. Kay filled her life with joy through many hobbies she adored. She had a special affinity for baking, always delighting her family with her delicious creations. Her hands were equally skilled in working with flowers, bringing beauty into each room and heart she touched. Whether riding in the woods, fishing in tranquil waters or exploring the treasures of antiquing with her sisters, she embraced every moment with enthusiasm. Friends and family are invited to join us in honoring her memory. A public visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan. 22, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Joe P. Burns Funeral Home, followed by graveside services at Carlton Cemetery at 2 p.m. In celebration of Kay’s life, we reflect on the countless cherished memories she has left behind, and the love that will continue to flourish in our hearts. As we say our farewells, let us remember her vibrant spirit and the many ways she made our lives richer. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to Under His Wings Ministry at 1644 Wright Rd. Perry, FL. 32347.
