Janice Johnson Gurr It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Janice Johnson Gurr, who left us peacefully on Feb. 20, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on Dec. 25, 1946, in Perry, Janice was a beloved mother, cherished friend and wonderful homemaker who filled her life with love and laughter. Janice enjoyed the simple pleasures in life- like f ishing, shuffling cards for a lively game night, playing bingo and traveling. But nothing brought her more joy than spending quality time with family, especially grandchildren. Janice her her was preceded in death by: her husband, Joseph Gurr; a son, Johnny Ray Gurr; a sister, Kay “Doll” Williams; and her parents, Olan Clark and Norma Jean Lynch. She is survived by: a son, Michael “Mickey” Gurr; her daughter, Shelby Gurr Gibson, and husband Guy, all of Perry; a brother, Billy “Deadeye” Clark; three grandchildren, Nicole Gibson Ernst, and husband, Billy Wayne, Guy W. Gibson II, and wife, Abbi, and Ty W. Gibson; and four great-grandchildren, Georgia, Tripp, Haylen and Ada Shelby; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24, in the Burns Funeral Home Memorial Chapel of Perry, with Brother Ben Kimell officiating. The family received friends one hour prior to the service. Interment followed at Spring Warrior Church of Christ Cemetery. We appreciate all who knew and loved Janice that joined us in honoring her memory and celebrating the beautiful life she lived. All arrangements are under the care of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
