Celebrate freedom, culture & community on May 23

Freedom, culture and community will be honored this Saturday, May 23, during the May Day Celebration at Loughridge Park, beginning at 10 a.m.

The community-wide event celebrates Emancipation Day, a state holiday marking the day slavery officially ended in Florida on May 20, 1865.

There will be a Kickball Tournament, Tug of War, horseshoes, family games and more.

Seven food trucks and vendors will be on-site, including: Bryce Williams Soul Food, Ole Skool BBQ, 305 Taste of Islands, D’s Comfort Food, Lekk’s Goody Box LLC, Granny’s Fried Kitchen and Gourmet Loaded Lee Nuts.

There will also be vendors, train rides for kids and music from D.J. Anthony Wild-Child Washington.
