Commission increases TCSO budget by $700,000 to settle sheriff’s appeal

Based on feedback and comments from cabinet level staff members at a meeting in Tallahassee last week, Taylor County Undersheriff Marty Tompkins (right) rejected the county commission’s initial offer of $500,000, before later accepting a $700,000 budget increase for the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office in the current fiscal year to settle Sheriff Wayne Padgett’s appeal to the Florida Administration Commission (Florida Cabinet).
After receiving a reportedly frosty reception last week from at least some of the Florida state Cabinet panel members hearing Sheriff Wayne Padgett’s budget appeal, the Taylor County Commission agreed to increase the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office’s (TCSO) 2025-26 budget by $700,000 during a special meeting Tuesday evening.
