FHSAA creates new ‘Open Division’ for the top-ranked athletic teams in the state

The Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) has voted to create a new “Open Division” postseason that will pull the state’s top-ranked teams into their own championship bracket beginning with the 2026–27 school year, a move that could reshape the playoff path for small, rural schools like Taylor County in Class 1A.
