Perry City Council votes to cancel Flock cameras trial

The Perry City Council voted to end a Flock Safety trial program Tuesday, despite a scaled-down recommendation from Police Chief Jamie Cruse, who called the automatic license plate readers a “proven public safety tool” and said the PPD has adopted “one of the most comprehensive ALPR policies in Florida” to prevent misuse.
After months of public debate touching on privacy rights, potential costs and transparency, the Perry City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to end its trial program with Flock Safety and have the company’s automatic license plate reader (ALPR) cameras removed from the city.
