    Council member travel $$$ dominates city budget talks

    Budget discussions at the city’s Aug. 11 meeting touched on a budget amendment allowing for $62,708 annual payments on a low-interest loan for new granulated activated carbon filters installed in 2024-25 at the city’s water treatment plant. The filters (above) remove organic chemicals that can react with chlorine to form disinfectant byproducts (DBPs).

    A $3,000 budget line item for council member travel and per diem to attend out-of-town meetings dominated discussion Tuesday, Aug. 11, as the Perry City Council continued work on its proposed 2026-27 budget.
