    No moratorium on data centers

    More than 20 people were in attendance Tuesday when Taylor County commissioners rejected a data center moratorium and instead voted 5-0 to enlist the services of consulting engineering firm North Florida Professional Services, whose planning team has been extensively researching and working with other counties to develop local rules that will protect natural resources and the health, safety and welfare of residents while establishing standards governing the location, scale, intensity, design and operation of data centers.

    The Taylor County Commission has rejected calls for a moratorium on data centers for the second time in the past three months, and instead unanimously agreed to move forward with the process of amending the county’s land development regulations (LDRs) — and potentially its comprehensive plan — to ensure proper safeguards are in place should a data center seek to locate here.
