Charlotte Mae Hagerman Thomas

Charlotte Mae Hagerman Thomas, 83, died Sept. 13, 2026.

She was born in Sandusky, Ohio, May 3, 1943, to Wanda Marie Bair Hagerman and Joseph Alvin Hagerman, the second of eight children.

Charlotte was preceded in death by: her husband of 54 years, Charlie Drew Thomas; her grandson, Christopher Cole Thomas; her brother, Joseph Alvin Hagerman (Joe); her parents; and

her dear friends, Sister Anna Claire and Alvina Horne.

She is survived by: daughter, Gay Howell (Tim); son, Chris Thomas(Ashley); daughter, Cheryl Curry (Chris); her precious grandchildren, Jennifer (Charles Baisden), Anna (Samed Hysa), Luke Kallschmidt (Alex), Nathan Kallschmidt (Erin Test), Max Kallschmidt (Makayle), Slade Kallschmidt (Lupa), Zachary Thomas, Susanna Hughes (Hunter), Hannah Claire Curry and Anna Leah Curry; six great-grandchildren, Julian, Joseph, Essie, Kaptain, Jack, Charlotte Rose and one on the way; her sisters, Bonnie Allan, Susan Faurot, Shirley Salter and Linda Lanteri; and brothers, Richard Hagerman and Dennis Hagerman; as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Charlotte had dear friends that were with her through the years at different seasons of life – Sarah Yarborough MaGee, Fran Finecey, Fr. Bob and Diane Marsh, and her two besties, Diane Kane and Suki Horne.

Her earlier years in life growing up in Ohio and then later South Florida, led her to many different job opportunities: one of which, she went to flight attendant school, then worked in a high-rise building in Kansas City, to living and working in Jacksonville where she met Charlie on a blind date.

They were married in 1972 and, after several years of living in South Florida and traveling to Africa, they made their home in Perry.

Charlotte started a home daycare, where she kept six or seven children in her home while her children were young ages.

She worked as personnel manager, activities director, receptionist, secretary and manager as local businesses, including Tom’s, the Perry nursing home, Martin’s Electronics and AFP (she helped train more than 200 people in Greenville, S.C., for the new plant that was opening up).

She was also a special education aide at Perry Primary School in the 1990s.

Charlotte enjoyed ministering and served on events like Cursillo and Kairos, giving glory to God for all HE did during those times of ministry.

She was a spiritual mentor and leader for Al-Anon, a program for spouses of Alcoholics Anonymous.

She led Bible studies in her home and church, and her unwavering faith helped both she and her family overcome years of struggle, heartache and medical issues, while watching God work through any situation that arose.

It wasn’t easy, but she knew God was faithful!

Later in her life, Charlotte became an ordained Anglican nun through the Order of St. Andrew in Scarborough, N.Y.

To all her OSA brothers and sisters she was known as Sister Veronica Ruth.

She loved the Lord Jesus Christ as her savior, and was blessed to be able to minister through the glory of God to others who were hurting, needed a safe place to talk or had been through trauma and abuse.

Charlotte loved the solitude of spending time worshiping, praying and sitting before the Lord God and in His wonderful presence. Often she was up in the wee hours of the morning praying for people, countries and situations that God had placed on her heart to pray over.

She had a heart for taking care of the elderly and those less fortunate. She looked at others as Christ saw them, not as she thought they should be.

She was known by her older grandchildren as “Nonna,” and by her younger grandchildren as “Nonni,” and she loved spending time with each of them.

She has sewn costumes, got stains out of any uniform, shirts or anything they needed.

She baked, cooked, sewed and taught them how to do that as well!

Nonni loved the arts, history and music. Nonni danced with her grandkids, helped homeschool the grands (when parents had appointments) and loved each one deeply.

Over the year, Charlotte survived three heart attacks, a heart bypass that did not work, three storkes and three hip surgeries. She was a warrior and a daughter of the King!

She was loved by us and so many.

We ask that you would join us in celebrating Charlotte’s (aka Nonni Sr. VR) life on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 5:30 p.m. at Westside Baptist Church with Brother Jermey Gray officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that if Charlotte has impacted your life in any way to please come and share that at the end of the celebration of life as a way to help us end the service.
