County debates buying church property for community center

    Posted on October 23, 2026

Blue Creek Baptist Church is currently seeking to sell two parcels of land between Cedar Island and Keaton Beach, including its former church building (on 8.11 acres) and adjoining parsonage (above), which is located on 1.94 acres at 21028 Beach Road. Commissioner Michael Newman has proposed the county purchase the parsonage to serve as a community center.

Currently, Taylor County has community centers in Steinhatchee and Shady Grove, as well as Forest Capital Hall in Perry. Could the county soon have another one in the Beaches area as well?
