‘Effective response’ is community’s best defense when disaster strikes

As a powerful storm system swept across the Southeast in late January, numerous tornadoes raked through towns, including Adairsville, Ga., destroying homes, damaging businesses and even claiming lives.

While various preparations can be made in advance of the storm season, there is no form of prevention, emergency management officials say.
