Citing the severe weather which moved across the Florida Panhandle this week as well as the large amounts of rain which have already impacted the area, Florida Gov. Rick Scott on Wednesday declared a state of emergency for 26 counties, including Taylor.
Local officials are hopeful that the declaration will open new avenues to secure assistance for Taylor County residents dealing with flooded properties and homes. The county has been under a local state of emergency for the past two weeks as officials continue to respond to the widespread flooding.
