Directed by Sam Raimi (“Spider-Man,” “Army of Darkness”), “Oz the Great and Powerful” sets out to tell the story of how the Wizard first arrives in Oz and how his interactions with its witches set into motion events that will either save or destroy the entire realm.
Although comparisons between this and last week’s “Jack the Giant Slayer” seem pretty clear, I’d say “Oz” is more in line with 2011’s “Alice in Wonderland”–not terribly surprising since the two share producers.
The film is rated PG for sequences of action and scary images, and brief mild language.
