Out in the salt marsh between Spring Warrior and Adams Beach lies one of Taylor County’s most peculiar mysteries–a concrete sidewalk, cracked and partially covered with mud, extending for over 70 yards along the coastline, as though someone meant to build something there.
Locals know this as the ruins of something called Boneta Beach, although exactly what that something was supposed to be has never been entirely clear.
Historian Josh Goodman, a Taylor County native, has done extensive research on the origins of Boneta Beach and the life of its founder, and will present on this topic at the monthly meeting of the Taylor County Historical Society, Monday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m.
Goodman is currently the staff historian at the State Archives of Florida, and is finishing a Ph.D. in history at Tulane University in New Orleans, La.
He graduated from Taylor County High School in 2004.
Refreshments will be served following Goodman’s presentation.
