It was near the height of the land boom in Florida and developers were casting their eye west. With established rail lines and a prime central location—not to mention miles of beaches—Taylor County was more than attractive.
It was their next target.
Ohio’s Ellis Bartholomew saw the potential and jumped on the opportunity with both feet. He and his wife, Lydia, moved to Perry and secured acres and acres of marshy coast.
