The Perry Police Department (PPD) has issued a fraud alert after receiving reports of local residents being targeted by scammers claiming to represent Publishers Clearing House.
“Residents have been contacted by phone and told they have won a sweepstakes prize, but in order to claim their money, they had to pay all the fees and taxes up front. They were told to send money through Western Union, MoneyGram, GreenDot cards or MoneyPak. One individual sent $4,500 before realizing he was being scammed,” Capt. Jamie Cruse said.
