    Downtown Christmas Open House is tonight (Dec. 5)

    The annual Downtown Christmas Open House will be held tonight (Friday), starting with a Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony at the Taylor County Historical Society at 5:30 p.m.

    At 6 p.m., Santa will arrive downtown aboard a firetruck (courtesy of the City of Perry Fire Department).

    Santa will visit with children at Katie’s Courtyard from 6- 8 p.m. Elves will be on hand to help entertain children while they wait for their turn to visit with Santa and Katie Lincoln King will be reading Christmas stories throughout the evening.

    Downtown merchants around the square and beyond will be open for extended hours Friday evening, each with seasonal promotions and specials.

    An “Ugly Sweater Contest” will be held at 8:30 p.m. in Katie’s Courtyard with youth (0-18) and adult (19 and up) categories.

    The Historical Society will host the first North Florida Gingerbread House Contest, with judging beginning at 6 p.m. Entries may be dropped off Thursday from 1-7 p.m. and Friday from 4:30-5:30 p.m.

    Society members will also be selling chili from 5-7 p.m.
