Must we feed them on weekends too?

It’s a question that has resonated throughout the community: if we feed children both breakfast and lunch at school (at no charge), as well as offer food stamps (EBT cards) for families, why is the Backpack Program necessary? Do we have to feed everybody on the weekends too?

Rhonda Brooks, social worker for the Taylor County School District, has heard the questions and understands their merit, but she is firm in her belief that the Backpack Program is a worthy endeavor.

Shown above, volunteers (l to r) Leslie Breaux, Tom Breaux and Karen Falicon, along with Perry Primary School Parent (PPS) Liaison Stacey Fike, help deliver backpacks to PPS. The bags are delivered each Friday and the empty backpacks are picked back up at the start of the next week.
