Volunteers needed

Volunteers are needed for the AARP Tax Aide program that provides free personal income tax return preparation for local citizens.

Volunteers can be of any age and do not need to be members of AARP (American Association of Retired Persons). Experience is not necessary, but basic computer skills are needed by the tax return preparers.

Volunteers will be provided free training Wednesday, Jan. 21. (Volunteers will be reimbursed for mileage.)

The local Tax Aide program prepared and e-filed 398 tax returns here in 2014 and provided assistance to more than 130 additional persons, all free of charge.

“Personal financial information is held in strict confidentiality and the program is approved and monitored by the Internal Revenue Service,” the local volunteer coordinator said.

Tax Aide volunteers will be at the Taylor County Public Library each Monday beginning Feb. 2 through April 13 (Saturday dates to be announced).
