When Superintendent Paul Dyal walked into Taylor County High School (TCHS) teacher Patricia Joe (P.J.) Piland’s classroom Friday morning, he didn’t see her at first. From the hallway, the classroom appeared empty, but that was only because her students were working at their lab stations, located in the back of the room.

“Hello?” Dyal called upon entering, followed by Director of Support Services Michael Thompson, who was carrying a bouquet of roses.

Dyal turned and saw Piland, and quickly shouted “congratulations” to the Taylor County School District’s new Teacher of the Year.
