Review: What made first ‘G.I. Joe’ film fun is MIA in sequel

Sadly, somewhere between the release of “G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra” in 2009 and its sequel “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” something went terribly wrong. Actually, many things went wrong.

A true sequel to the first film, sporting the original cast with a few choice additions from the expansive G.I. Joe pantheon could have been a great summer popcorn flick. I really should have known that “Retaliation” was not going to be that film. Unfortunately this was a battle I lost. Actually, we all did.

The movie is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of combat violence and martial arts action throughout, and for brief sensuality and language.
